Three Binder Systems of the Precision Casting Technique

There are three kinds of binder systems of the Precision casting technique: sodium silicate (NazO.mSIO2.nH2O), ethyl silicate (C2H5O) 4Si and silica Sol (H2SiO3).

1. Sodium silicate casting: high surface roughness, low dimensional accuracy, short shell-making period and low cost. Used for carbon steel and low-alloy steel, aluminum alloys and copper alloys.

2. Ethyl silicate: to be used after hydrolysis. Small roughness, high dimensional accuracy but when dry condition is bad, it will have hoar-frost, thus affecting the quality. It is widely used in the carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, heat-resistant steels, non-ferrous metals with high cost and long cycle shell making period.

3. Silica Sols has small roughness, high dimensional accuracy. It is widely used in the carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, heat-resistant steels and non-ferrous metals, etc. The cost of the material is very high and shell making cycle is long.
